  5. Firstly,  I  don't mean this review as
  6. any   disrespect   to  Gerry  Anderson
  7. himself.   This  guy's  done a lot for
  8. the  otherwise  shyte  British  Sci-Fi
  9. scene, with his excellent Thunderbirds
  10. and the like.

  14. Anyone  whose seen an episode of Space
  15. Precinct  will have found that it's...
  16. well  it's not as good as it was hyped
  17. up   to   be.    You   may  think  I'm
  18. condemning  it  before I've even given
  19. it  a  fair chance but, believe me, it
  20. truely is dire.

  22. As  the title suggests, Space Precinct
  23. is  based  around a police station set
  24. in  space.  Well, a planet named Altor
  25.

  40.  
  41.  
  42. at  any  rate.  Yeah, and it's got all
  43. the flying cars, funny alien faces and
  44. shit  as  well.  The main character is
  45. Lieutenant   Patrick   Brogan  who  is
  46. portrayed by Ted Shackleford of Knot's
  47. Landing  fame.   This  was  the  first
  48. mistake!  I'll never know how this guy
  49. managed   to   TAKE   OFF   from   the
  50. programme.    I  have  never  had  the
  51. misfortune to watch Knot's Landing but
  52. I  know enough to realise it's nowhere
  53. near the same mould of Space Precinct.
  54. If  you  want an example of this guy's
  55. acting  ability,  take  a  look at his
  56. shocked  expression  in Space Precinct
  57. (don't  worry he does it at least once
  58. in  every  episode), it's so fake and,
  59. to put it bluntly...  hilarious!

  61. Most  of  the series is set in a place
  62. called   Demeter   City,   which   has
  63. obviously been influenced in design by
  64. Blade   Runner.   This  is  where  the
  65. second  mistake  is made - the special
  66. effects.   When  you're making Captain
  67. Scarlet,  if  the  flying car crashing
  68. actually   looks   like  a  model  car
  69. crashing.   It's  okay,  coz the whole
  70. show   is   about  wooden  models  and
  71. marionettes.   On the other hand, if a
  72. flying  car  in  Space  Precinct looks
  73. like  a  model  when it's crashing, it
  74. destroys  the  illusion.   Especially,
  75. since you've seen the same car moments
  76. earlier,  look  completely  different!
  77. On a more positive note, I thought the
  78. pyrotechnics  were  done  well  though
  79. (that's  the  explosions  to  all  you
  80. thickies out there!).

  82. Fortunately,  Space  Precinct is never
  83. going    to    reach    season    two.
  84. Personally,   I   don't   class  Space
  85. Precinct as a complete waste of space.
  86. The  idea  was  there,  it's  just the
  87. execution all went wrong.  (A bit like
  88. this mag really, ain't it!)

  90. Finally, I know this whole article has
  91. been on the negative side, but I'm not
  92. dismissing  Space Precinct completely.
  93. If  it's  on  TV,  then  I'll probably
  94. watch it.  All I'm saying is that it's
  95. very average.
